If you're like me, you were pretty chill when you were younger. You didn't party much, you stayed to yourself, and you pretty much had no idea what you wanted to do.
A new poll reveals that men in this age group are most likely to struggle with keeping it up. If you didn't get much action in your younger years - you could be in for a surprise.
So why can't they get it up? 49% of the men blame stress, while 24% blame drinking too much. On top of that, almost 30% have broken up with their partners as a result.
In fact, 43% of men aged 18-60 across the UK are suffering from impotence; four in ten men blame stress, 36% blame tiredness, 29% blame anxiety, and 26% say they drink too much.
This poll came from some researchers from the Coop Pharmacy. They found that the largest affected age group of men with erectile dysfunction are those in their thirties - 50% reporting difficulties getting or maintaining an erection.
If that doesn't sting, 42% of those in their 40s, 41% in their 50s, and 35% under 30s cannot get it up.
So what gives?
Famous TV Doctor Hilary Jones has been quoted saying "Erectile dysfunction is a taboo in our society, and that needs to be broken."
She goes on to say “In an age when many people are happy to share intimate details of their lives on social media, it is a huge cause for concern that men today do not feel confident enough to discuss openly their struggles with impotence.”
Of the men surveyed, one-third of men aged 18-60 surveyed say they haven't told anyone about their erectile dysfunction. Only 28% have done to their doctor, and only 9% have discussed it with another man in the family.
What's even more worrying is that 43% of those affected by impotence could not discuss this issue with a friend. 23% said they wouldn't feel comfortable talking about it with their own doctor.
We have a legitimate problem here, why can't men talk to even their significant others? Hell, 27% of men said they would rather break up with their partner rather than talk to their doctor about their inability to get it up.
Adrian Wilkinson is the spokeswoman for Coop Pharmacy. She said “The results of the survey clearly show that erectile dysfunction is something that’s having a huge impact on almost half of the male population in the UK.
“It’s with this in mind that we want to de-stigmatize any negative misconceptions and start talking about impotence and normalizing it, to help men feel good, know they’re not alone and know they’re not being judged.”
What About Viagra?
One in five people in their 30s said they have tried Viagra outside of going to the doctor.
Viagra sold online or otherwise obtained may not be safe - going to the doctor to be prescribed the drug ensures that you will actually get what you are paying for... And it is expensive.
10 Tips to Protect Your Erection
Since most of us don't want to even mention that we have a problem, I wanted to give you 10 actionable tips that you can start today to try to improve your situation.
Erectile dysfunction can come from a variety of things - stress, diet, and drug use are three heavy offenders.
1.) Eat Better
Any foods that can cause heart attacks due to restricted blood flow should be avoided.
Diets without many fruits and vegetables, along with fatty and fried processed foods contribute to a decreased blood circulation in the body.
This is why you feel so jacked after you eat some fish, rice, and vegetables. You literally are healthier.
2.) Lose Some Weight
Being overweight sucks, trust me.
Type 2 diabetes is very common in overweight people. Type 2 can cause nerve damage throughout the body.
If diabetes affected the nerves that supply the penis, erectile dysfunction can result.
3.) Get Your Cholesterol and Blood Pressure in Check
High blood pressure and cholesterol in your bloodstream can damage your blood vessels.
Eventually, this could lead to erectile dysfunction.
4.) Moderate Your Alcohol Consumption
While there isn't any evidence that even moderate alcohol consumption is bad for your penis, chronic drinking will cause liver damage, nerve damage, and can even affect your sex hormone levels.
5.) Get More Exercise
There are many strong evidence links between a sedentary lifestyle and erectile dysfunction.
Running, swimming, and even HIIT training are great forms of aerobic exercise that can help prevent erectile dysfunction.
6.) Watch Testosterone
Testosterone levels begin falling sharply around age 50. In fact, every year after 40, your testosterone typically falls about 1.3%.
Low sex drive, moodiness, lack of stamina, or trouble making decisions can all be symptoms of a testosterone deficiency. Ask your doctor about it and be in the know.
7.) Stop Smoking
Smoking cigs can harm blood vessels and curb your blood flow to the penis.
Nicotine makes blood vessels contract, which will obviously reduce the blood flow to your penis.
8.) Watch Out for Risky Sex
Injuring your penis during a night of sexcapades can cause erectile dysfunction.
Take your time and learn what you can and cannot do. This ensures penis safety.
I couldn't imagine cracking him in half so be safe.
9.) Lower Your Stress
Stress boosts levels of adrenaline, also making the blood vessels contract.
Ease the tension and feel better emotionally to have a big boost in your sex life.
Learn to meditate, relax, and do whatever it takes to lower your stress levels.
10.) They Have Toys for That
Many pumps and other toys are out there to improve your penis health.
Whether you have erectile dysfunction or not, getting more blood to your penis (just like lifting weights) will maintain a healthier and stronger penis.
You could turn your erectile dysfunction into a fun game for you and your partner to play with toys.
